2022 CDI Lunch and Learn - Behavioral and Mental Health Documentation

Providers need to better strategies to understand the documentation that is required for specific code assignment so that the medical diagnosis codes are an accurate reflection of their patient’s condition, severity, complications/manifestations, and treatment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Explain how documentation affects risk adjustment, and shows the complexity of patients
  • Identify key components of behavioral health documentation that are required for accurate code assignment for major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse, and dementia.
  • Start implementing clinical documentation integrity best practice recommendations for documentation to maximize HCC coding, as well as severity of illness and risk of mortality.
