Overview
Weight Loss in the Prevention and Treatment of type 2 Diabetes
The incidence of obesity is increasing among the US population. Currently within BSWH system there are 144,914 members with obesity documented as a disease. Out of these members, 43,040 are diabetic. Physicians can use appropriate FDA driven prescribing guidelines to provide optimal care for weight loss in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Select appropriate medications for patients with obesity who are prediabetic or have diabetes
- Differentiate and implement prescribing guidelines and insurance coverage and alternative avenues for medication access
- Discuss with patient’s appropriate lifestyle modifications and provide resources available to support long term sustainable weight loss and know the resources available.
