Description: Physicians have faced increased levels of stress and burnout. The Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim hike provides a unique opportunity for participants to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and connect with one another outdoors and away from work.
Location: Grand Canyon National Park - Being in nature will distance the learner cohort from the stimuli of clinical/academic practice into a remote environment with ample opportunity for self reflection and small group discussion.. Participants benefit from the healing effect of a natural environment (forest bathing) and offered the opportunity for direct engagement through participant appropriate physical activities.
Goals: By participating in this event, learners will apply concepts of self-care, maintaining psychological capital, refining professional goals and improve their awareness of signs and symptoms of second victim, moral distress, compassion fatigue, burnout, and mental health distress/crisis which may threaten the safety of healthcare providers as well as the patients they serve.
