OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1.Discuss essential terms within HIPAA legislation.
2. Identify the policy and procedures in place to comply with the regulations for privacy and security.
3. Discuss the HIPAA rules that override state regulations for privacy and security.
4. Identify the precaution and requirements of identification that employees must observe when considering requests for personal health information (PHI).
5. Discuss patient/physician confidentiality as defined by HIPAA and other federal and state statutes.
