OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Review the historical conceptualization of the praecox feeling (PF) and the work of the individuals whose contributions impacted this process.
2. Describe the epistemology and phenomenology of the PF and discuss implications for the "operational revolution" within scientific psychiatry.
3. Consider the factors which distinguish the diagnostic process in psychiatry from that of other medical specialties and explore the ways that this can be incorporated into medical education.
