OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: (1) Explain the pathophysiology of AL amyloidosis and how monoclonal light chains lead to organ dysfunction and how to recognize the common clinical manifestations and organ involvement patterns. (2) Describe the diagnostic approach, including initial evaluation, laboratory tests, tissue biopsy, and staging systems. (3) Review the current treatment strategies, including plasma-cell-directed therapy and supportive management and discuss emerging therapies, prognostic factors, and long-term follow-up recommendations.
