New medical knowledge and technology are advancing more quickly than most physicians can keep up with and utilize wisely.  This series of lectures to allow physicians to improve techniques involved in the diagnosis and management of disease often seen by Internal Medicine physicians.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Evaluate treatment options for patients with complex coronary disease requiring revascularization but who are poor candidates for coronary bypass surgery.

2. Discuss the indications for both potential risks and benefits of various acute mechanical support devices in the setting of complex PCI, heart attacks, and cardiogenic shock. 

3. Discuss matters with patients receiving acute mechanical support, counsel on existing and emerging clinical trials evaluating their use in various clinical settings.
