National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and Vermont Oxford data in Neonatal-perinatal medicine suggest significant continuing morbidity and mortality of very low birth weight infants. Some of the common and challenging risk factors are nutrition, respiratory management, neuro developmental outcomes etc. Additionally, providing education in the neonatal- perinatal medicine is essential for patient care as well. 

OBJECTIVES:   Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the culture and philosophy of a NICU  dedicated to caring for infants born at 22-23 weeks gestation
  2. Review survival, morbidity and two-year outcomes for periviable infants born at 22-23 weeks gestation at a single center with a proactive philosophical approach
  3. Identify differences in management strategies when caring for infants born at 22-23 weeks gestation
