New medical knowledge and technology are advancing more quickly than most physicians can keep up with and utilize wisely.  This series of lectures to allow physicians to improve techniques involved in the diagnosis and management of disease often seen by Internal Medicine physicians.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Explore the ethical framework behind the practice of palliative sedation at the end of life.

2. Update the medical staff on advancements in donation after circulatory death to include utilization of ECMO in order to increase the number of viable organs for transplantation.

3. Discuss the spectrum of "abusive behavior" on the part of patients towards the healthcare team and how to navigate towards a zero tolerance environment of safety and respect.
