OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Discuss the prevalence and experience of workplace violence events related to the trauma center setting.
2. Identify behaviors and associated risk factors specific for the recognition, intervention and prevention of workplace violence-related events while providing care for the critically ill and traumatically injured patient.
3. Discuss the misconception of intent to harm versus intention..
4. Describe the post-event reporting process, legal implications and ethical dilemma experienced by survivors of workplace violence.
