National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and Vermont Oxford data in Neonatal-perinatal medicine suggest significant continuing morbidity and mortality of very low birth weight infants. Some of the common and challenging risk factors are nutrition, respiratory management, neuro developmental outcomes etc. Additionally, providing education in the neonatal- perinatal medicine is essential for patient care as well.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Generating rapport with patients and colleagues
- Elicit others' perspectives with open-ended questions
- Improve outcomes through effective communication with patients and colleagues
- Balance respect for patients' right to autonomy with providing best medical care
- Maintain relationships during difficult conversations with patients and colleagues
- Make empathetic statements in response to other's thoughts and emotions
- Communicate effectively and reduce frustrations that may lead to burnout
- Gain patient's trust
- Improve patient's perception of care
