OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

(1) List at least three likely causes of a civilian MASCAL event, and the anticipated types/mechanisms of injuries for each type of event.

(2) Discuss 4 potential sources of MASCAL "bottlenecks" and strategies to avoid or minimize each one.

(3) Compare and contrast the standard ATLS approach of ABCD to the current military primary survey approach of CABCD.

(4) Define and differentiate a standard trauma event, a multiple casualty event, and a mass casualty (MASCAL) event.
