OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 
(1) Describe basic pathophysiology.
(2) Recognize the role of ultrasound & characteristic findings
(3) Explain the background, evolution & techniques of the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS).
(4) Discuss the new application of ultrasound for TIPS.
