OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

1. Describe the risks and benefits of a programmed intermittent epidural bolus strategy for labor analgesia

2. Determine when a labor epidural catheter should be withdrawn and a new neurxial anesthetic should be performed for unscheduled cesarean delivery

3. Manage a general anesthetic for an emergency cesarean delivery
