  1. Identify the different classes of neuromuscular blocking medications and those used in reversal of neuromuscular blockade and their mechanisms of action.
  2. Discuss monitoring of neuromuscular blockade.
  3. Review the proposal of the new ASA 2023 guidelines for neuromuscular blockade.

“Analgesic Adjuvants for Peripheral Nerve Blocks?”

OBJECTIVES:  As a result of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the mechanism of action of local anesthetics and certain adjuvants.
  2. Discuss the current literature supporting use of analgesic adjuvants for PNBs.
  3. Identify the common side effects of adjuvants used in peripheral nerve blocks.

“The Use of Liposomal Bupivacaine vs. Regular Bupivacaine for TAP Blocks”

OBJECTIVES:  As a result of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Review basic anatomy involved in TAP blocks.
  2. Discuss pros and cons of using liposomal bupivacaine for TAP blocks.
  3. Discuss pros and cons of regular bupivacaine for TAP blocks.
