OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to - (1) Review the presentation and diagnostic work-up of acute hepatic porphyria and acute non-blistering cutaneous porphyria, (2) Explain the mechanism of action of new therapies for porphyria, (3) Recognize the challenges of living with a rare genetic disease.
