OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: (1) Describe current practice guidelines for patients with resolved hepatitis B who are to be placed on immunosuppressive drug therapy. (2) Analyze whether there may be alternate ways of preventing HBsAg recurrence after OLT or de novo hepatitis B following receipt of an anti-HBc-positive liver other than long term or indefinite antiviral prophylaxis. (3)Evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of an FDA licensed HBV vaccine that has been shown to be more immunogenic hepatitis B vaccine (hep B CpG) than traditional recombinant vaccines in patients requiring biologic ISDT for chronic inflammatory disease and those taking calcineurin inhibitor and mycophenolate post liver transplantation for hepatitis B. (4) Discuss that antibody responses to hep B CpG vaccine appear to differ according to the potency of the immunosuppressive regimen.
