OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:   (1) Identify that MI is an evidence-based, patient-centered intervention for fostering change and growth in patients, which in turn establishes a trusting relationship between healthcare professional and patients and patient ina population of great diversity, of chronic illness, socially-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the disenfranchised and medically traumatized patients, who come to us seeking healing and empowerment for a safe transplant experience. (2) List the guiding spirit of MI’s four elements: A) Partnership B) Acceptance C) Compassion D) Empowerment, (3) Identify why "the righting reflex" of helping professionals is a barrier for patient change and growth.
