OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:  (1) Describe the prevalence of obesity and its associated healthcare costs, (2) Explain pathophysiology of obesity and its relationship to chronic disease, (3) Discuss the role of current dietary and cultural patterns in the development of obesity, (4) Review behavioral and dietary management of obesity, (5) Examine pharmacologic and interventional management of obesity.
