Michael Volk, MD, has been named as the next chair of the Department of Medicine in the Central Texas Region. Dr. Volk will assume his duties in early July. 

Dr. Volk joins us from Loma Linda, California, where he is a professor at Loma Linda University. He currently serves as the division director for gastroenterology and hepatology and as medical director of liver transplantation. As a clinician, educator, administrator and scholar, Dr. Volk has more than 140 peer-reviewed publications, has significant extramural grant support, and is a major journal editor and reviewer.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Virginia and continued his education with a fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Volk holds a Master of Science in health and healthcare research from the University of Michigan, and he is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars program alumni and former faculty member, also at Michigan.
