OBJECTIVES:  As a result of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

  1. Discuss signs, symptoms, causes, and risk factors of perioperative bronchospasm.
  2. Review strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of perioperative bronchospasms in adults and pediatric patients.
  3. Incorporating cognitive visual aids, such as an emergency algorithm, to enhance decision-making and response during intraoperative emergencies, such as bronchospasm.

“Premedication with Esmolol/Dexmedetomidine vs Fentanyl to Attenuate Hemodynamic Response During Direct Laryngoscopy”

  1. Identify the efficacy of Esmolol in attenuating hemodynamic response to direct laryngoscopy when compared to Fentanyl.
  2. Identify the efficacy of Dexmedetomidine in attenuating hemodynamic response to direct laryngoscopy when compared to Fentanyl.
