“Racial Disparities in Parturient Urine Drug Screening at a Texas Level IV Maternal Care Center”

OBJECTIVES:  As a result of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

  1. Discuss the observed racial disparities in urine drug screening (UDS) rates among Black, Hispanic, and White patients during pregnancy at a Texas Level IV maternal care center.
  2. Analyze the impact of various factors, including race, access to care, socioeconomic indicators, and the COVID-19 pandemic, on the likelihood of receiving a UDS during pregnancy.
  3. Investigate institutional policies or protocols that might contribute to racial and ethnic differences in urine drug screening practices among parturients.
