OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1.  Describe the typical presentation of pharyngitis and explain the different etiologies of pharyngitis.
2.  Explain and develop an approach to evaluate pharyngitis, review the role of throat cultures in management of pharyngitis, and identify the role of antibiotics in the management of pharyngitis.
3.   Analyze and summarize treatment strategies for pharyngitis and explain the indications for surgical intervention in patients with recurrent pharyngitis.
