OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Differentiate among common causes of acute arthritis in hospitalized patients. 
2. Describe current evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and inpatient management of acute gout, including appropriate use of synovial fluid analysis, laboratory testing, and imaging.
3. Discuss individualized treatment strategies for hospitalized patients with gout flares, incorporating considerations of renal function, comorbid conditions, and safe transition to outpatient care.
