OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Describe hemodynamics and normal intracardiac pressures. 
2. Discuss the clinical importance of assessing volume status. 
3. Review the key components of clinical history and physical examination. 
4. Explain the role of biomarks in volume status evaluations.
5. Review concepts of diastolic function and echocardiographic techniques for volume assessment.
