New medical knowledge and technology are advancing more quickly than most physicians can keep up with and utilize wisely.  This series of lectures to allow physicians to improve techniques involved in the diagnosis and management of disease often seen by Internal Medicine physicians.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1.   Describe 3 different opportunistic infections that might cause a person with HIV-1 to be admitted to the hospital.  

2.   List 3 medications that can act as victim, perpetrator or facilitator of adverse or beneficial drug interactions.

3.   Explain to a patient the meaning of CD4+ T-lymphocyte count and HIV-1 quantitative RNA PCR.
