OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Review contemporary lipid-management guidelines, including current low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) thresholds and treatment goals across risk categories.
2. Discuss emerging lipid-lowering therapies, including oral PCSK9 inhibitors, cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitors, lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]-targeted agents, angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) and apolipoprotein C-lll (ApoC-III) inhibitors, and gene-editing approaches, and review pivotal and ongoing clinical trials.
3. Identify practical considerations in lipid management, including safety monitoring, statin intolerance, treatment intensification, and barriers to achieving guideline-recommended LDL-C targets.
