OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
(1) Describe the role of larynx in the cough reflex.
(2) Identify features of chronic cough that suggest a laryngeal source.
(3) Describe when to refer patients with chronic cough to The Voice Center, and discuss possible interventions that may be recommended (eg, cough therapy, neuromodulatory medications, physical therapy, and superior laryngeal nerve blocks).
