OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Include an effective approach to initial in-office screening, including the importance of the STOP-BANG questionnaire, physical and radiographic examinations, and symptomatic impact.
- Recognize the differences between a home sleep apnea test (HSAT) and a lab-based polysomnography.
- Tell us about current medical management strategies for OSA patients, including lifestyle modifications, oral appliance therapy, and positive airway pressure devices.
- Discuss the surgical algorithm for OSA management, with an emphasis on identifying the level of airway obstruction using drug-induced sleep endoscopy.
- Explore surgical management options based on the level of obstruction, including nasal surgery, palatal surgery, tongue-based procedures, and maxillary and mandibular advancement for lateral pharyngeal wall collapse.
