“Practical Gastric Ultrasound in the Perioperative Setting”

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1.Identify and demonstrate proper gastric ultrasound imaging technique.
2.Describe and analyze gastric ultrasound examination findings.
3.Discuss limitations of gastric ultrasound image quality and interpretation. Identify the antrum of the stomach using ultrasound.
4.Identify if antrum is empty or not, and if matter in stomach is fluid or solid.
5.Evaluate gastric volumes and decide if patient at risk for gastric aspiration.
