OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Review the anatomy and physiology of the facial nerve and how facial nerve disruption causes functional disturbance.
2. Analyze and differentiate between the treatment options for flaccid versus non-flaccid (or incomplete/spastic) facial palsy.
3. Discuss and understand the indications for further work-up for facial paralysis beyond typical "Bell's Palsy" (or idiopathic facial paralysis) and review the treatment options based on the timing of facial paralysis.
