OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
1. Recognize when it is appropriate to order an echocardiogram and when it needs to be done routinely, ASAP, or STAT
2. Explain when an echocardiogram needs to be done as an inpatient, outpatient, or whether the study needs to be repeated
3. Recognize when it is appropriate to order a transesophageal echocardiogram
4. Review embolic stroke of unknown source and indications for TTE with bubble study
