OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: 

1)  Discuss the historical context of opioid use, summarize the pathophysiology of opioid use disorder and list risk factors for opioid use disorder.

2)  Identify clinical manifestations and diagnosis, differentiate the roles of genetics and molecular biology in the neurobiology of addiction and address common misconceptions.

3)  Discuss current management and treatment options, understand the benefits and clinical utility of medication assisted therapy and apply concepts of medication assisted therapy to their practice
