OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: (1) Discuss the significance of the Mortality Index and its impact on institutional quality rankings, including CMS, Vizient, and U.S. News & World Report measures. (2) Describe the relationship between provider documentation, risk adjustment, and expected mortality, and identify common diagnoses that influence mortality risk models. (3) Analyze strategies for streamlining documentation workflows, such as the use of EMR SmartTools and multidisciplinary collaboration, to improve quality metrics without increasing provider burden.
