OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: (1) Describe current strategies and regulatory requirements for donor screening to identify potential infectious risks prior to organ transplantation. (2) Recognize common and emerging donor-derived infections, including their modes of transmission, diagnostic challenges, and clinical impact on transplant recipients. (3) Analyze the balance between maximizing organ availability and minimizing infection risk, with emphasis on risk–benefit decision-making in donor acceptance.
