2024 Obstetrics Crisis Management - Session 4 20240827 (1800)

August 27, 2024

There are increasing maternal mortality and morbidity rates in Texas. Recent studies in 2014, revealed that the maternal mortality rate was 35.8%, compared to 17.4% in 2000. There are more critically ill OB patients than ever before, and they are being treated in non-obstetric areas. With increasing maternal age and co-morbidities, it is imperative to increase collaboration and education between the specialties (Society of Critical Care Medicine, 2017). The Texas Department of State Health and Human Services requires all physicians who provide maternal care to participate in team-based training yearly. There are increasing maternal mortality and morbidity rates in Texas.
