20250605 CDI Principle Diagnosis Documentation (PDx) Lunch & Learn
Many providers do not have a good baseline knowledge of the importance of documentation nor how documentation affects billing, coding, readmissions, etc. The principal diagnosis (PDx) drives the diagnosis related group (DRG) and without it, the chart is not able to be coded appropriately. This education will provide definitions of the PDx in various scenarios, will discuss the importance of the PDx from a billing/coding and programs standpoint and will provide workflow application for everyday use. This will hopefully lead to better documentation, more accurate billing and coding, and accurate documentation for various programs.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Recognize the importance of accurate documentation of the principal diagnosis (PDx) and how it relates to patient denials
- Establish the criteria to select the most accurate principal diagnosis (PDx)
- Apply the process of principal diagnosis (PDx) selection to the daily documentation workflow
