20250924 CDI Chronic Kidney Disease: New Data, New Guidelines, New Treatments Lunch & Learn

KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) is the global nonprofit organization developing and implementing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in kidney disease. KDIGO Clinical Practice Guidelines have been updated in 2024, and significant changes were made to the way providers evaluate, determine and document Chronic Kidney Disease.

Additionally, as of June 2025, there were 1,181 queries sent to specify CKD stage. This number represents opportunities for improved documentation to more accurately capture a patient’s condition.

Providers must be equipped with strategies to appropriately identify and document a patient’s condition in order to for accurate billing/coding and various state and national programs.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of diagnosing, classifying and documenting chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and related diagnoses 
  • Apply the current diagnostic and staging criteria for CKD
  • Identify the need and impact of accurate coding of these conditions
