The Patient Resource Center offers a demonstration kitchen where a chef and registered dietitian teach patients and their families how to cook nutritionally and deliciously. Sometimes patients experience side effects that impact their nutritional intake and may need to know how to cook healthy foods that accommodate new nutrition and taste needs. An in-depth weight loss surgery seminar with information presented by one of our bariatric surgeons on surgical options, risks, follow-up, and monitoring requirements. A nutrition class is also provided by our dietician.

Baby Boot Camp covers the characteristics of newborns, hospital procedures, tests and medications, breast and bottle feeding, tips for the first few weeks at home, and a skills lab that includes diapering, dressing, swaddling, using a bulb syringe, and taking temperature. This class measurably improves diabetes control by enhancing knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to diabetes. This ADA-recognized Diabetes Self-Management Program provides all the basic skills required to live healthy with diabetes over the course of a lifetime. Participants will complete four sessions within one to four months. Each class is two hours, except Session 1.

FALL (Fall Awareness Lengthens Lives) is an interactive educational program that teaches attendees ways to help prevent falls. The class emphasizes the importance of identifying and decreasing fall hazards, importance of routine exercise, medication that may cause falls, and importance of eye care.

Take10 stands for “Take 10 minutes to learn compression-only CPR.” It is regular people providing CPR training that is simple, fast and free. Take10 started in order to improve cardiac arrest survival by increasing the number of people able to and willing to act when needed. Survival depends on CPR starting quickly, before 911 responders arrive. Attendees will need to be able to kneel for approximately 5 – 8 minutes.
