Diabetes Boot Camp - Georgetown (In-Person Patient Class)
Overview
This class measurably improves diabetes control by enhancing knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to diabetes.
This ADA-recognized Diabetes Self-Management Program provides all the basic skills required to live healthy with diabetes over the course of a lifetime.
- Participants will complete four sessions within one to four months.
- Each class is two hours, except Session 1.
Target Audience
This class requires a physician referral. Everyone attending must be 18 years or older.

Program

- Session 1: Dealing with the diagnosis, diabetes medications, home glucose monitoring, carbohydrate basics and the benefits of exercise.

- Session 2: Understanding home glucose test results, managing hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia, sick day strategies and healthy strategies for dining out.

- Session 3: Reducing heart disease risk: heart-healthy diet and exercise strategies and the benefits of weight loss.

- Session 4: Living healthy with diabetes: reducing risk of diabetes-related complications and managing diabetes over the course of a lifetime.
