OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Identify patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea and chronic diarrhea.
2. Construct a differential diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea and an approach to distinguishing underlying causes.
3. Discuss treatment options for irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea and chronic diarrhea.
