This disclosure training will increase both literacy and competency in communicating unanticpated oucomes to paeients and their families by teaching disclosure proactices and impact on both patients and providers through didactic and simulated processes.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify legal and professional risks of disclosure
  • Identify markers of burnout/distress for providers involved in adverse events
  • Develop skill in communicating about adverse events with patients and their families
  • Ability to differentiate between a bedside and institutional disclosure and develop skill in communicating each
  • Increase self-awareness of impact of adverse event on care giver and develop skill in addressing that impact
