January 25, 2024

TOPICS:

AM - Leading and Sustaining Change

PM - Leveraging Trust and Influence

INSTRUCTOR:

Jerry Magar

PREPARATION:

AM

Come to class having considered at least one recent example of medium to large scale organizational change in your organization.

Consider the following questions:

- What compelled the organization to initiate this change? Is this commonly known?

- What communication strategies have been used regarding the change?

- How have stakeholders (employees, vendors, patients, customers) responded to the change?

- Overall has this been a positive or negative change for the organization?

PM

Come to class with a recent or current relationship challenge in mind, one where you had a difficult conversation that didn’t go as well as you’d hoped. It may be a scenario where you know you need to have a conversation and hope it will go well. It could be with your boss, peers or direct reports. It doesn’t matter.

Give some thought to the relationship dynamics:

- What do you need from this person that you are not getting?

- What strategies have you employed so far?

Learning Objectives

AM

The More Things Change…The More People Stay the Same.  This statement asserts the basic premise that regardless of the depth or intensity of change, we as humans react in very predictable ways.  This session helps us evaluate predictable behaviors that may have been effective in one environment, but when transferred to the dynamics of change, can not only be ineffective but downright dangerous.

PM

  • What are the elements that drive influence?
  • How are the tools to navigate the unexpected emotions of others?
  • What does research tell us about influencing others in difficult situations?
